I crave tacos/burritos at least once a week, so when I moved to St. Louis, I was only hoping for a place good enough to satisfy my craving. I tried a few places downtown with tacos on the menu, but there was always something missing. It was only after a coworker suggested Mission Taco Joint that I discovered "taco heaven". The food here is fresh and tasty, no matter what you order. I've definitely enjoyed the South Beach Burrito a few times, and the service is fantastic, to boot! Now, I usually go here at least once a week for lunch during work. As you can see by the reviews of other Yelpers, I'm not alone in my love of the Mission Taco Joint.

The fact that this place only has 4 stars baffles me. Besides the amazing atmosphere and excellent service, the food is perfection. Super satisfied, 5 s

I rarely review things on Yelp, but three strikes and you're out... I've been to this Mission Taco too many times to count, and the past several times I've received pretty terrible service. It was 7pm, the place was busy, but not slammed. A few open tables. Our drinks took forever to come out (not the bars fault, they were sitting on the counter waiting to be picked up...). Ok, I can forgive that. But, then a beer was forgotten by the waiter for a good 30 minutes (he did bring another drink that was ordered at the same time...). I can let the drinks go. We order our food, which I must say is excellent, and don't see our waiter again until we are nearly finished eating. He had the nerve to ask if wanted drinks...no, thanks.... The real kicker is when he got our check. We were a party of 5 and paid with cash and 2 cards. Here's the deal, it's 2015- figure out how to split checks. I already knew that Mission Taco won't split checks, so I did the math and told the guy what to charge both cards. When he came back with the receipts, he didn't come within 3 feet of us, slid the booklet on the table and walked off. Didn't say anything- he might've mumbled 'thanks.' One of the rudest moves I've ever seen a server make. I might add that we were VERY forgiving at the table. Didn't cause a fuss. The service has gotten progressively worse at this location. I think I'll stick to the one on the Loop. I've always had good luck there. Such a shame when good food gets ruined by bad service...

Typically the coworkers and I round up together after work to grab some late night tacos which was the case last night. We arrived shortly after 1220am. The place had at least 15 tables full of people. We nestle down and go over the menu. 2 minutes later a woman resembling Shirley Temple walks over to tell us, "Sorry guys.. Our kitchen closes at 12:30." I look down at my phone and it was 12:28. Wow. My coworker was really upset. He asks her, "Whose the manager tonight?' To which she replied, " Kyle.. Yeah. Sorry. You can order drinks still.. If you want?" I don't understand how it's not on their website or Facebook page as to what time they close their kitchen, especially on a weekend night. I've been there on a Tuesday and was served food past that time. Try being consistent! I emailed the management and still haven't heard anything back. We typically send our customers to Mission Taco in Soulard when it's past our 11pm time of close on weekends. A restaurant should serve food the entire time they are open. Your happy hour reads, "10pm til close." Obviously you close at different time than advertised. You have lost regular customers and we plan on sharing the information of wishy washy service/management.

I had the Kona Longboard beer & tacos. I had the duck, fish, & chorizo tacos. I've never had duck on a taco before, but like many other yelp reviewers, I found it tender & yummy! Definitely worth getting. The fish tacos were also excellent. On another visit, I had the chef's special taco, brisket, fish, and mushroom tacos. I enjoyed them also. I do not remember the beer I had with my meal, but it was good. It had some lime flavors, so it went well with tacos. They do rotate the beers, which is a plus on some sides, as you get variety, but if you had a favorite, it may no longer be available in the future, so enjoy it while you can.

I'm happy to say that I am no longer a Mission Taco virgin! My husband and I have been trying more of the places we've had bookmarked for a while, and Mission Taco happened to be one of them. It had both positive and negative points for me, but the positives certainly outweighed the negatives. Parking, like most places in this area, can be a hassle. We were lucky enough to find a spot nearby, but it happened to be on the highway overpass with no sidewalks. I felt like I was playing Russian Roulette dodging cars to make it to the front door. Luckily, we won. Once we stepped inside the safety zone of the front door, I admit that I was underwhelmed by the interior. It has that cold industrial thing going on with the exposed pipes and vents, concrete floors, and tin ceiling tiles. Personal preference, but that's just not my thing. I remember thinking at this point that the food better impress me or this will be my first and last visit to Mission Taco. Our server was awesome and took the time to answer questions we had about the menu and gave us some helpful recommendations. We started with the chips and salsa. The chips were brought out warm and served with two different salsas... a hot spicy red and a milder tangy green. The chips and salsa were great, but here's a pet peeve of mine... they are listed as an appetizer. I feel that things like chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant or a bread basket at most other establishments should be complimentary. Maybe I'm just cheap? My husband and I both ordered burritos and split a side of the chile crusted fries. I went with the South Beach (grilled chicken, chihuahua cheese, cilantro rice, smashed black beans, chipotle aioli, topped with guacamole) and my husband ordered the Brah'rito (carne asada, chipotle bacon, black beans, crema, chile crusted fries, chihuahua cheese, ancho sauce, topped with guac and pico). For a small up charge, the burritos can be topped with sauce or melted cheese. I tried the cheese, but wouldn't get it again. It gets lost with all the flavors already in the burrito and I could barely tell it was there. Both burritos were amazing... and huge! The fries were quite tasty as well, but we didn't eat many of them after filling up on chips and salsa. So thanks to the delicious food, my bad first impression of Mission Taco turned around. Next time I know to skip the melted cheese on burritos, not to order a side if also eating chips and salsa, and wear good running shoes in case we get stuck parking on the overpass again.

They make tacos and they do them very well. I really enjoy the authenticity of the restaurants on Cherokee Street, but I think Mission Taco holds their own and does them with their own twist. Definitely a solid place for food and drinks.

Great casual vibe with great tapas type of dining food. You can order many different types of tacos so everyone can sample the food. Enjoyed the fresh nature of the products and the fresh corn artisan style tortillas. Parking is awful, but if you are used to dining in Soulard, you won't care.

Mission Taco Joint was a recommendation from our bartender at Blood & Sand. We were looking for a laid back place to grab late night drinks. We were a little incredulous, Mexican bars are typically too lame or way too turnt. Oh how we were wrong. The vibe here was just right and Kyle made some of the best drinks I've ever had. Good bartenders ask what you typically like to drink and then can craft you some fairly delicious drinks. Now shitty bartenders ask you describe every facet of your ideal drink so they can make you one of the 5 off menu drinks they know how to make. Kyle asked what I typically drink. I said "Well usually I like Whisk..." He gave me "Talk to the Hand" and retreated to make me a fantastic cocktail. It was a daiquiri, but with Whiskey instead of rum. It was deviously simple. But it created a completely new cocktail that fit my tastes and was appropriate for the 85° and humid weather. He made a girlfriend a whiskey sour with a red wine float in response to "I like fruity girly vodka drinks". And she loved it. Order the Goonies Never Say Die, you won't regret it. Kyle also made me the best Margarita I've ever had. His blend of tequila and the fresh lime were perfect. The food here was great too. We had the fried chees curds and they were phenomenal. These can be over fried and the texture of the curd gets ruined. But here they were squeaky and stringy! Kyle recommended trying the chorizo and portabella tacos. Be warned the chorizo is spicy! The portabella has a texture that might be off-putting to some but the flavor can't be beat! If you are in St Louis do not miss Mission Taco Joint. And make sure Kyle is slinging drinks.

I have been to every American taco joint that at louis has to offer and I officially name Mission Taco as the best. A lot of places try to get creative with their taco offerings and miss the mark (ie gringo's cricket taco) but Mission's cactus taco is spot on. Great atmosphere and a connection to the International Taphouse get this joint to the 5 star mark.

We've lived in STL for 3 months now and kept hearing about how good Mission Taco is...we finally got the opportunity to try it. After a 25 minute wait, we were seated and had a friendly and enthusiastic waiter. He explained the tacos and other menu offers. He recommended their raspberry frozen margarita which I ordered. Glad I did cause it was damn good! Tacos were excellent...I found the portobello mushroom taco to be the best of the 4 I ordered. Tacos are about $4 each but quite good and you can taste the "quality" of the ingredients. Also, the chips at $3 are a steal cause they are probably the best I've ever had and the salsas are delish! Can't wait to go back.

I've eaten at Mission Taco twice now. Both times I ordered chips & salsa which have been great- chips are really fresh and salsa is too. So far entree-wise I've stuck with tacos- the grilled fish tacos and carne asada tacos are my 2 faves. Generous meat portions and really yummy, fresh toppings! Most recently I also tried out the "taco of the month" which was a riff on Vietnamese flavors (Pho King I think). Not my favorite- meat was a little dry. Drinks are a little pricey, but expertly crafted AND infused liquors & juices are made fresh in house which is a big plus in my book. You'd spend the same amount on cocktails at Applebee's/ TGI Fridays, etc for something full of premixed sugar water. Love the fresh Cali vibe and lively ambiance!

First time at Mission Taco. Was greeted & seated quickly. Had Chips & Guacamole for appetizer. The Guacamole was great the chips were warm and good little too salty though. Also ordered a kiwi agua fresca (fresh water) which sounded delicious. I personally wasn't a fan of this drink had no flavor didn't taste like kiwi. To eat I got the Torta Ahogada which is slow roasted shredded pork, smashed black beans, chihuahua cheese, pickled onions, chipotle bacon, smothered in chile ancho sauce. I actually liked it just thought that the sauce should have been a lil spicier. I didn't like the side of fries that came with the sub. They were covered with chile pepper which was spicy was hard to swallow. The server was attentive and nice. Overall a good experience. Would definitely be back but to the Delmar location.

A few friends and I tried Mission Taco for the first time last night. The service was pretty good, but I was a little underwhelmed by the food. The hostess was very friendly and we were seated immediately. It was a beautiful night and they opened up the front of the restaurant. The space is decorated very well with several pieces by Peat Wollaeger. We ordered a round of drinks and the queso per the recommendation of our waiter. It was pretty tasty, but I am regretting not trying the salsa. There's a small bottle of hot sauce at each table that seems house made, but it's very vinegary. We ordered tacos and burritos. Our food came relatively quickly and my burrito was huge. The dollop of guacamole on top was really good. I chose the Brah'rito which sounded like it would be a taste explosion, but it was so bland. I didn't taste any of the flavors in the description. My friend who ordered the tacos said they were incredible so I will definitely be back to try something new and give Mission Taco another try.

I am so lucky. I pretty much live smack dab in the middle of both of the Misson Taco Joints. So which ever direction I back out of my garage, I'm pointed in the direction of a MTJ. I couldn't ask for a better GPS and today it just happens to lead me to my 800th Yelp Review. Our first couple of visits to the new Soulard location were a little bumpy which can be expected when a "joint" is opening with new staff in both the front and back of the house. On our most recent visit, it seems that everyone is now broken in and bringing their A-Game to the table. Soulard is serving up the same high quality tacos, burritos, street corn and Margaritas that I have grown to love over in The Loop. However, after drinking a Mission Paloma here in Soulard, I may never drink another Margarita again. The Mission Paloma may be my new regular drink at MTJ. It's reposado tequila, agave nectar, grapefruit beer, served in a salted rim pint glass. It kinda was a Moscow Mule with a Mexican twist and I loved it. Eric was an excellent server, he gets bonus points for leading me to the MP. He may be my go to waiter when dining at the Soulard MTJ. I'll be back soon, it just depends which direction I back out of my garage.

I've heard the buzz about Mission Taco Joint but hadn't ever visited because I never go to the Loop. Then, one magical day as I drove down Lafayette en route to the dog park, I noticed they had opened a beautiful location in Soulard. I continue driving past it each dog park trip, gazing longingly through my car window. Last week, I turned my longing into satisfaction with a visit to Mission Taco Joint. The environment is lovely: exposed brick walls, high ceilings, open space well decorated and a large rolling garage door that opens up to the outside to enjoy fresh breezes on good weather days. We decided to combine our max stomach capacity to try every taco we could fit, which we accurately estimated at six tacos plus a side to satiate the two of us, and then a desert to stretch the limits. The great prices made it easy to go "all out". Tacos in order of taste rank, from least favorite to winner: #6 Roasted Duck $3.50 Coming in as our least favorite, this taco was still decent. I found the pork belly addition to be unnecessary and take away from the duck. I also felt that the crunch of some cabbage might have elevated the taco. #5 Nopales $3 I love nopales, but being a wuss to heat, couldn't enjoy this because in my hunger haste, I didn't realize that it was dressed in a jalapeño salsa. I will order this again without the jalapeño salsa. #4 Portobello $3 This was good, but a little too much goat cheese that took away from the vegetables. The rest of the ingredients were a good match, particularly the crispy onions and arugula. It was the least Mexican tasting of all the tacos. #3 Yucatan Pork $3.25 Great flavor from the tender pork to the ancho bbq sauce which I was skeptical of before I tasted it. The pickled onion was a definite flavor elevation for an already solid taco. #2 Beef Brisket $3.25 Great flavor, tender meat, fresh avocado and delicious sauce. #1 Baja Fish Tacos $3 Winner winner fish taco dinner! I never thought as a coastal transplant who grew up on the Mexican border that I'd ever find an acceptable fish taco in the midwest. WRONG! I had the grilled version, which was flavorful, fresh and crave-worthy. In fact, if I wasn't so lazy I'd get off my ass right now and drive down to MTJ just to have one as a late night snack. I've been lusting for those tacos since the moment my last bite was gone...last week. The seasoning of the fish was SO good! We also had the generously portioned and well priced refried black beans which were delicious. I usually prefer black beans whole, but they know how to do them refried in a way that only adds to them without drowning them in fat. My appreciation for MTJ was sealed by the churros. I am not a chocolate fan, and although it is accompanied by a semi-sweet Mexican chocolate sauce for dipping, I found them good enough to stand on their own. These aren't your Amusement Park/Fair style churros. They are much more authentic with far less sugar. I've since been back for just churros. So why not five stars? Because I can't give a solid five stars until I have finished slowly working through the menu as a side to the grilled Baja fish tacos. However, from the impressive flavors I have already experienced as well as the great waitress who took good care of us, I anticipate I will be upgrading this review very soon.

Arrived shortly after 4:00 PM on the Sunday before Labor Day. Nice place. Love the decor. Great music. Really good looking menu. All fired up for an exceptional experience. Two of us (out of a party of three)ordered one of the featured tap beers. After a couple of minutes our server came back and said that they were out of the beer. OK. We ordered a couple of Mexican bottled beers. Someone came by with an order of the fried cheese curds in sauce, Explained it was an extra. Nice touch. The cheese curds were OK. Not a big fan of cheese curds though. The waitress asked us how we liked them and my wife explained that we aren't big fans of them. The server looked very disappointed. I tried to explain that we were form the Chicago area and go up to Wisconsin a lot where cheese curds are served a lot and we aren't particularly fond of them. She said that these weren't from Wisconsin. Now I felt like I had insulted them. On to ordering appetizers ... got the huitlacoche empanadas. Excellent! Ordering tacos ... tried to order the taco of the month. When I asked what they were the server did not know and went to check. Came back and said they were out. Folks, this is 4:20 PM on the second day of a three day weekend. OK, ordered other stuff. The birria tacos were solid. The duck tacos were very good. One of us got the the brah'rito and said it was very good. I was a little hungry and asked about the baja fish tacos. Asked the type of fish. The server indicated it was tilapia. I asked how it was sourced and she did not know. She was going to ask but I indicated I would get dessert when everyone else was done instead. After everyone was done we were going to order dessert. Tried to order the churros. Our server came back and said that they were out of churros. Overall this seems to be a pretty nice place. Maybe we hit it and they were not on their "A" game. But I am not inclined to return. It seemed like they were just operating on what they had on hand and did not do any special ordering for a 3 day weekend. Probably had a big Friday and Saturday night and were caught short for the next two days. Also the server seemed completely lost about why I had asked about the sourcing of the tilapia. I think that with the news about the tainted tilapia coming out of Asia would be something a hip restaurant would make sure they had the good stuff and then advertise it. In summary a very nice little neighborhood place being poorly run.

The food is good, and the experience is usually fun... until it's time for the check. Every single time I have been to Mission, getting the check paid for is a circus. For some reason, they won't split checks. So when you and 6 of your friends drop in for dinner and drinks, figuring out the bill is akin to cracking the enigma code. The employees get flustered trying to figure it out, the patrons want to throw a stack of cash at the employess, flip the table and run out of the building as if their hair was on fire, never to return. It's 2015, EVERY OTHER RESTAURANT ON THE PLANET CAN SPLIT A CHECK. Next time you hand out a bill to a table of 8, make sure to give them a green visor, cigar, and one of those giant analogue accounting machines... maybe an extra water, it's going to be a while. If you claim it's for your employees, there is no way. No way. The bartender and waitress looked like they were going to burn the place down, after notifying us that they don't split checks. It was a "please don't kill the messenger" look, I am sure they get harassed every single day over it. Mission, I'll make you a deal. You split checks and we will bring back groups people to feast on your tacos. Until then, you get three stars and may god have mercy on your soul.

As an avid taco eater who has tried tacos all over the country and currently lives in California, I can honestly say these are the best tacos I've ever had. The portobello is AMAZING!! Good guac and chips too! A must-try in St. Louis for locals or anyone stopping through!

Lovin' the new Mission Taco Joint! The inside is super cool. It's bigger than the Delmar location and has a way bigger bar. Plus, it's easier to find parking here. They have a great service and the same amazing food! I went with the street corn and fried fish tacos again. Can't go wrong with that! Pro tip: they cant' split check so come prepared!

  • Theresa R.

So great! There are so many different taco options, each one with unique flavor. The street corn off the cob is a great side. The place is quite busy and can be a bit loud. Not a problem necessarily, just not the place to go if you want a quiet place for conversation.

Taco, taco, taco! Ever since the news about Mission Taco Joint coming to Soulard broke, I've been anticipating its arrival. Now we already have Chava's on the island, but I've never been particularly excited about eating there. Part of the problem is how picky I am about Mexican food. I like to do things a la carte, and Mission Taco has got that the a la carte thing down! My first visit was during laundry day. I had stopped into another Soulard staple, and my service wasn't very good. The bartender was being short with me and other customers. I cashed out, threw my dundees in the drier, and wandered down to Mission. Right away, I was thrilled to be there. The bartender was super nice, and she walked me through the taps and specials. Meanwhile, she was still figuring out the system. Despite the distraction, she was a million times better than the bartender from the prior bar. I finally came in for dinner at the end of the week. The server was very friendly, and I made my a la carte order. I ordered three tacos: roasted duck, beef brisket, and carne asada! The avocado sauce was pretty awesome, and I was a fan of my tacos. I looks like I've found a new place to hang out on laundry day. Welcome to the island, Mission Taco!

I wouldn't say that Mission is authentic. I would say they have great tacos for a complicated pallet or for people that won't wander into a "real" mexican restaurant. The Tortas are okay, I like the variety but they lack the authenticity. The tacos are delicious great spins on traditional tacos. It's good to see someone try a duck taco and be surprised by how good it tastes. I would go to Mission on my way to a ball game or whenever I am in either Soulard or The Loop. Both are bike friendly and have a great bar. Their drinks are delicious!!!

There are few things that can create so much happiness. Mission Taco is the most beautiful creation ever to be discovered. Everything is so damn good it melts your brain. I subconsciously leave personal items behind so that I am forced to come back, at least, I'm pretty sure I do.

I have ONE thing to say about this place: Get the Street Corn "off the cob". Best thing on the menu - Hands Down. I would go back to this place, after only marginally liking their tacos and getting poor service, JUST for this stuff.

This past weekend's visit to Mission taco was my first visit. I've been to Milagro many times, so my expectations were high for this place. I came with my wife around 6:30 on Friday night. Side bar: I absolutely hate trying to find a parking place in Soulard. Street parking is just a pain any way you shake it. My wife and I ended up parking on the 55 overpass on Lafayette, and then dodged some cars to make it to Mission Taco. The place was starting to fill up quickly, but we were lucky enough to nab a table without having to wait. The bar area was really busy, and looked like it would be a fun place to have a happy hour. This particular location has a very industrial vibe to it. It had the exposed brick and ductwork, along with concrete floors. It's not really my style, as I don't really like the feeling of eating in a warehouse, but to each their own. The food here is really good. We started off with the chips and salsa ($3). It's a bit of shame that you have to pay for chips and salsa, but we wanted to try them. I thought the chips were good. The red salsa was a little spicy, while the green was more sweet. I had the brah'rito, which included carne asada. I would highly recommend this burrito. It's huge and is very filling. My wife got the south beach burrito, and really enjoyed it as well. We got a side of fries to share, which were unnecessary, but were good as well. All in all we had a good experience at Mission Taco. I still like Milagro better, but I'm sure we'll be back at some point in the future. We got out of here for around $35 total. Relatively inexpensive for a Friday night out on the town.

Mission Taco Joint just opened in Soulard earlier this week and I couldn't be more excited! The bf and I decided to have our Friday night "date night" at MTJ this week. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess and she was quickly about to show us to our table-we didn't even have to wait! The place was busy, but it was a steady busy not an overwhelming busy. When we sat at our table our server came over right away with water. He showed us the menus for drinks (drafts, bottles, and cocktails) and gave us a few minutes to decide. When he came back I was ready for a Raspberry Caipirinha and the bf went with a draft of Pacifico; both great choices and refreshing. We ordered some chips and salsa and looked over the menu to decide on our meals. I ordered a chicken taco, a grilled fish taco, and an order of the street corn; the bf ordered the brah'rito. A few minutes later our food arrived and our server made sure to check in on us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. He brought us some fresh chips since we were out and let us know that he was happy to help if we needed anything else. I really enjoyed the tacos I ordered and the street corn was amazing! You gotta try it if you go! Our server was really great and even though he was busy he still made it by a few times to make sure we were good with drinks. There was even a guy walking around filling up water glasses which was great! Kudos to MTJ for their amazing service. Wanna know the best part? It really does connect to iTap and Epic through the back entrance area; this is going to be another great spot to order from on nights when I am hanging out at iTap!! I am so happy to have another great restaurant in Soulard! This may just become a weekly eating spot for me!!!

Wonderful first experience! The chicken flauta appetizer was divine, the guacamole was excellent, and I can definitely see why Mission Taco won Best Fish Taco in St. Louis for their Baja Fish taco (which I had fried ... the extra calories are so worth it!) I also had their special taco of the month, the Pho Taco - a Mexican/Vietnamese fusion of spicy and sour pork with pickled carrots that was worth a try for the novelty factor alone. Mission Taco has definitely made it onto my list of faves!

I read these rave reviews of this restaurant, and I really don't understand all the hype. I am not one to write a rip you apart review, that is just rude to say the least, however my review looks to be one of few that are raving about this place.. I have tried Mission Taco 3 different times, and I unfortunately won't be going for a fourth round.. the space is nice, nothing incredible or of that magnitude, however, the service was good and the server was friendly, knew what he was doing, added his own opinions which helped our party make their meal decisions.... I ordered the Carne Asada taco's, I have eaten these at many different restaurants, and know how carne asada should taste, it should be full of flavor, and tasty, what I had here was not good. the meat had no flavor, and personally I found it bland and tasteless, the tortillas were dry, and added nothing to the taste... several others in our party of 7 were also finding their food to be bland and flavorless.. only one person didn't find fault and that was the one who suggested the place.. when ordering the taco's / burrito's there are no sides with your order, everything is al-a-cart, so expect to pay a little more for extras. the chips and salsas (which are an appetizer) are tasty, however chips and salsa does not a meal make... come to your own conclusions about this place if you will, I don't understand the hype of it, but what does that matter.. not everyone can be happy, there are other places to go just as there are other customers that will come here to eat... sorry mission taco joint, unfortunately you don't get my vote..

Funky taco place in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis. The building itself adds to the experience - a re-purposed firehouse complete with bell (look up!). The space is divided by an open-ended wall, dividing the bar from the tables. A colorful mural (reminiscent of California) graces a wall that brightens up the space. Now on to the food - the menu describes MTJ as "Mexi-Cali" (maybe that explains the surfboards in the mural!). Our group opted for the street tacos, which are ordered a la cart and served family style. We tried: Beef Brisket Birria, Nopales (grilled cactus), Yucatecan Pork, Carne Asada and Roasted Duck. They were all very, very good. Honestly, one doesn't stand out over another. The place has a large selection of craft beers and some unique libations. The Vino El Invierno was served warm, a blend of red wine, whiskey, chocolate & spices. Pretty tasty on a blustery day! We were there for an early lunch on a Saturday; it was busy, but not at all crowded. Service was great and our server was very friendly. My guess is this place is wall-to-wall at nights. Definitely worth going to and returning to.

Tried this on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered the Mexican cheese curds which were way too salty. For our main course, we tried 4 different tacos: Carne Asada, Portobello Mushroom, and Grilled Fish (Baja). They were tasty with the sauces, but the grilled fish tasted a little off. Drinks are pricey at $9 for a cocktail (Spiced Horchata). Service was average for a busy place.

First time here and maybe my expectations were way too high, but the tacos were barely warm and I wasn't impressed by the either salsas that came with the chips either.

Hey Mission Taco Joint, maybe this will get you attention??? ... probably not... First off, the food was excellent. However, the service was dreadful (worst I've had in St Louis). It was like pulling teeth trying to get one of the aloof hipster workers' attention. They circled the restaurant zombie-like in their skinny jeans, a pitcher of water in one hand and their gaze affixed to the floor. I felt like I was an extra in a movie of their collective hangover. Please wake up MTJ, you're too good to be so bad! - Bob Food - 4 stars Service - 0 stars

The club setting makes it just a tad too loud but the food is amazing. Best things were the cheese curds, beer and fish tacos.

Hi my name is Rachel and I am not a huge fan of Mission Taco. Before you start throwing stuff at me, yes the food is ok, nothing spectacular, and certainly not worth the price point. I really won't be going here on my own again. The service was good, the cocktails were good, the food was good. Just average stuff for well above average price. I would definitely go if someone else is picking up the tab, but I would not suggest it.

A great flavored taco joint with a lighting problem :). Good food and the service was stellar but it is on the pricier size for tacos. I don't give it 5 stars because our tacos weren't hot (mildly warm) and same with the fries. Mind you, they were still delicious and our server discounted them because of this. Also, the lights were so low that you'd spot at least one table using their I-phone flashlight to read the menu. A little tweaking and it would be a five star.

Just as good as the one in the Loop. Great addition to Soulard. Great drinks at the bar.

Best. Service. Ever. Honestly, Andrew was amazing and seriously knew his beers. The entire staff was wonderful and the food was amazing. Coming from Arizona, it was great to find some Cali inspired tacos. Great food, great service, great atmosphere!'n

Tacos: Had a few of them and thought they were delicious. They had good flavors and they arrived at my table rather quickly. Beers: Delicious craft beer with a lot of local beers to choose from. It's worth checking out and it's a good places to socialize over a few drinks.

Fantastic tacos. Nothing like real street tacos; but, damn good tacos in a bourgeois sort of way. I enjoy the place very much, the drinks (especially the aqua frescos) are great, the atmosphere is unique for St. Louis and very accommodating... I mean what more could you ask for? If the waits are too long at the Del Mar Loop location then head over to Soulard. FYI they also deliver to iTap there (its just down the alley, anyway).

I ordered the New Year's Resolution... it's basically a guilt free burrito filled with tofu and veggies. While it wasn't popping with flavor, it was still good. However, I regret not ordering tacos, or at least something with beef or pork. The space is nice. The service was good.

Impressive. Just impressive...! We found ourselves exhausted after a particularly busy Sunday of work around the house and in dire need of sustenance. Enter Mission Taco Joint. Hopped on line and found the menu. We selected the Guacamole & Chips, Queso con Chorizo, Three Little Piggies burrito, South Beach burrito, and the Street Corn "off the Cob." Clearly, we did not order enough food :) The Guac tasted fresh, and the Chips were warm. The Queso was, well...cheesy, but flavorful. The burritos...? Wow. Couldn't have tasted fresher. The pork shoulder in the Three Little Piggies was tender -- not even close to dry. The chicken in the South Beach was juicy and tasty. Both were intensely flavorful -- we were glad to have chosen these. If there was anything I think was just alright, it was the corn. It was juicy, and flavorful, but not the full-on "in-your-face" taste of elote. That being said, MTJ is one of the few places in STL that even offer Mexican street corn. Probably one of the closer examples of elote here in STL. Will we back for more? Surely!

I will preface this by saying I have previously lived in cities know for their Mexican food. If Yelp let you rate service and drinks, those would both be 5 stars. We went in during a busy lunch day, and the hostess, food runners , and server were all attentive and quick. The chicken taquito appetizer is excellent, full of flavor and still light for being fried. If only they could have passed this on to the tacos. We had the carne asada, beef brisket, tofu, and chicken. The only one that had flavor was the tofu. Despite the very fresh ingredients, the protein lacked flavor and the corn tortillas were sort of rubbery in texture. Food a bit overpriced as well. Speciality drinks were excellent and fairly priced. I would try Mission again simply based on how excellent the taquito and service was. Also, the space is awesome. Will try different items on the menu and hopefully add more stars to this review.

Mission Taco is a great addition to Soulard. I think their food is outstanding. I am vegetarian and they have a lot of options. I love the street corn and quinoa side dishes. Their portobello taco and tofu tacos never disappoint. I am looking forward to trying more things. Everyone is friendly and the service is good. Love the atmosphere. Keep up the good work.

Lovin' the new Mission Taco location. It's more spacious than the U-City spot and the decor, though similar, is a little cooler. The hubs and I split the chips and salsa (always a good idea) and though I recognized the spicy salsa from the UC spot, I think the tomatillo salsa was new (am I right on this??) We also split the south beach burrito and a taco trio. Burrito was good--I opted for the cheese on top, but I don't think it needed it. As for the tacos, the carne asada was pretty bland, but both the yucatan pork and portobello took me to flavor-town. I saw that some other yelpers had service issues, but our waiter was great and the food came out quickly. Looking forward to having a MTJ closer to my house!

This was our first time at the new location in Soulard. This is located at Lafayette and 9th across the street from Bogarts. The building is very cool w/ a garage door style opening in the front. The place is all exposed brick, wood and girders so very urban and cool. Unfortunately since there is so much brick and the ceilings are so tall....it was really loud in there and everyone had to yell. When we came in we left our cell number with the host. They will then text you when your table is ready. I wish more places did that. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. Our bartenders were very helpful and nice. One of the things that I really love about Mission is their cocktail selection. I order the Delmar Boulevardier and when they made it they lit the inside of the glass on fire....so this is a great drink to order while at the bar. It was really good too. We started off with the chips and salsa and one was mild and one was hotter....but we felt that they were both kinda hot. We also ordered an assortment of tacos (fish, steak and pork) and some street corn and jasmine rice (I've never had that before here). Everything we got was really good. I think that our server was Daniel and he did a great job and was very attentive. We are so glad that they opened this location since it's much closer to our neighborhood. Great job guys!

Ordered a burrito - the "New Year's Resolution" - and it came covered in oil. It doesn't say this as an ingredient on the menu, so I was a little irritated. I hate giving bad reviews, but this place charged me for the burrito when I only ate 3 bites of it, and requested something different. It may sound like i'm an extremist, but I am a vegan and was hoping they could cater to me, since they have all the ingredients necessary. All in all, the service was not the greatest, so i felt the need to speak out on it.

Meh - our experience was just ok. First time here, and we ordered drinks to start. I ordered a Bloody Mary and was told that the closest thing that could be made for me was a Michelada, which was on their drink list. Um, okay. They appeared to have a full bar -- why couldn't I have just had a Bloody Mary? They had the mix. And the garnishes. Probably the vodka, but if not, why not use Tequila? If I had ordered a simple rum and diet, would that have also not been an option simply because it's not on the drink list? Anyway. I wasn't a fan of the Michelada, but they're not to blame for that. My friend ordered an IPA and asked for a glass to pour it in. The glass was quite obviously soiled, and even had a noticeable lipstick smudge on the rim! The server did not notice. Appetizer plates were stacked on the table, and we noticed that they were soaking wet when we passed them out to have the chorizo queso dip. Where I'm from, that's a health code violation -- or at least, very conducive to grossness. The dip was very good. I ordered three different tacos and cilantro rice. The tacos were pretty good; the rice seemed overcooked and mushy. My husband and friend had burritos, which they said were excellent. Overall -- food was pretty good, but the incidents with drinks and plates were disappointing. In spite of this, I would go back to try other things on the menu.

We went there for lunch today. My boyfriend isn't a Mexican food lover but we both loved it!! We had about 5 different tacos all of them were awesome. I had the Mexican rice which had cilantro in it. I was a little hesitant because I despise cilantro but it was on several things we had and it was actually good not overpowering! And the pineapple cider is the best! We will be going back. :)

Okay so I love Mexican and I do consider myself a relatively adventurous eater. I went in with a friend for some Sunday afternoon cocktails and tacos. The cocktails were pretty good for the most part. I'd recommend them. If you're looking for familiar tastes and "texmex" then you are in the wrong place. We ordered the empanadas and chips and salsa. One salsa was chipotle the other was roasted - I wouldn't call them delicious, although I would say they are unique. The empanadas utilized goat cheese and corn smut. Corn smut is basically diseased corn. It's a fungus deal. I get it - mission is being edgy. They added goat cheese to make it extra funky. This would be fine if this combo wasn't in 1/4 of the menu items. I dig it, but not that much. The fish taco was the best I have ever had. I might consider getting three of those next time. The portobello was pretty good, although it contained the corn smut and goat cheese mixture as well. The libertine pork belly was cool with the pickled slaw, although it came out cold. This place is what it is.... You will taste things you never have had before, and that's great. Some of it may not be for you - but you tried it and now you know. Great service and you can tell these people care about food. I'll be back to challenge my palate again!

If you visit this awesome local eatery, you MUST get the fried fish tacos! I crave these ever since my first visit! Awesome ambience and great service! A must try if you're in the Soulard area looking for something quick or if your meeting friends to catch up. I've been to this restaurant about 10 times and I have yet to be disappointed. Sam the bartender is awesome and super friendly. Excellent restaurant!

I went in to this restaurant not knowing what to expect- I hadn't looked over the menu online, hadn't asked around to see how it was. I was pleasantly surprised. I went with my parents and my grandma, and to be honest, the atmosphere was a little loud, but once the food came, it didn't matter. I got a steak burrito with cheese, bacon, beans, chili fries and salsa, and it was absolutely delicious. The steak alone was enough to give it five stars. It was tender, juicy and tasted divine, and that combined with everything else made the experience. I highly recommend this place.

We went before the grand opening and it was superb. First our server Alex, very friendly, nice smile, and handsome. The food was delicious. I had the pulled pork mexican sammie, Alex said it could feed four plus fries, it fed me, i ate it all and it was yumyum. The beer, pefectico clara to go with it, plus a lime was perfect. My husband had a duck taco, that was a little spicey for me but, very tasty all the same, the fish taco was really good. The overall ambiance was trendy but not over done. We will go back. Great food, great prices, great place, and really great peopl

Mission Taco is fantastic from start to finish. The tacos are fantastic and the drinks are even better. The bartenders make drinks that you would expect from a highend cocktail lounge. If you don't get the drinks get the Bahrrito, it's awesome.

The tacos are the bomb, the street corn is a must try, the atmosphere is great, and the beer is cold. Mission Taco is always busy, and for good reason. Some of the best street style fare in the St. Louis area, and a great location to go with it.

Cool vibe, great little joint, good service, good draft selection of craft beers, and good tacos. The street corn took me back to being west of the Pecos River. Being attached to Epic and the International Tap House isn't a bad thing.

Well I had high hopes for this place. Perhaps I just got their B team effort cause it was late Sunday about an hour before their kitchen closes.... But hard to find a positive about this place. We ordered the queso con chorizo, came out fast (+) but the CHIPS (-).... How are you gonna give me a good dip and chips that I wouldn't feed my neighbors dog. Stale, flavorless, old, and I could have got a better plate of chips with a buck fifty at the corner bodega... The entree I got the Brah-rrito pulled in by the menu that looked like lots of good choices, yawn.... Not rich with flavor, and meat was rough!(-) the cocktails were decent but overly priced for what they are.(-) our service was mediocre my water glass stayed empty for far to long(-) I don't want to give this place one star even though they probably deserve it. The place is nice and clean(+) but if they are gonna be open for a Sunday night they should step it up.

I have been to Mission Taco probably a dozen times. Obviously I don't hate it but also I honestly don't understand why it's so popular. I've an avid lover or any kind of taco and try them at other places quite often. Personally my favorite taco was at Sassy Jack's in Soulard that recently closed with BREAKS MY HEART. They had the most amazing blackened ahi tuna tacos served with equally amazing garlic fries that blows Mission Taco away. Unfortunately i think their location and lack of marketing did them in. Also there are so many places on Cherokee that are way better - especially La Vallesana and Taqueria el Bronco. Great food and GREAT prices! Yes, I'm sure I'll go back to Mission Taco but honestly feel like the place is generally overrated. It seems St. Louisans have a way of over popularizing one place at a time and don't know how to diversify. (ie: Ballpark Village - still don't get that) Bottom line, don't limit yourself to tacos at Mission Taco - it's good but get out there and try other places in town. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Dope tacos, made from scratch tortillas, and fresh ingredients. We had the duck, the brisket, the mushroom, and the fish tacos. All good, though the fish and mushroom definitely stood out as favorites. Order a side of street corn and anything off the drink menu and you'll be happy. And speaking of happy, 10-close everyday is Happy Hour -- $2 Tacos and shots. Cray.

Tacos weren't as good as expected from reading reviews. Carne asada had no flavor. Duck tacos were good. But I found a couple small bones in mine. Drinks were good. Waitstaff ok.

My husband and I really liked this place. It's got a cool industrial city vibe. From the looks of the structure it used to be a garage before being renovated. Brightly colored art work adorns the walls and current music is playing along with the cardinals baseball on tv at the bar. We weren't starving so we shared 4 tacos. Beef brisket, duck, and both fried and grilled fish. We also ordered a side of the street corn. Everything was very good. We especially liked the duck taco. We would definitely go back and try other things on the menu. Our waiter Daniel was perfect, always there but not hovering.

The Soulard Mission Taco Joint is great. The Mexican Cheese Curds were outstanding, great breading and sauce! The guacamole was fresh and delish! Our group had several different tacos and a couple of burritos, and we all sampled everything. Carne asada, grilled chicken, fried fish, chirizo, it was all on point. It is a bit on the pricey side, but overall, I would highly recommend.

Get the street corn with your chips n salsa. So good. Probably the best thing I eat. We had 5-6 different tacos. Carne asada was the best taco we tried. The Nopales wassss extremely hot. Thank goodness for the waiter warning us before hand. (I did not try it) but I tried a little thing of cactus, to knock it off my bucket list. Man, that was hot!! Margarita has fresh squeezed lime juice. It was yummy.

Amazing amazing food. Always a good crowd and a lively environment. Tacos come a la carte and are HIGHLY recommended.. Especially the fried fish one! Margaritas are good as well.. Good selection of flavored to choose from as well. I had the lime, blackberry, and pineapple before.. All very delicious. Love this place and I'm definitely a fan/regular.

Pretty good tacos. Pretty meh service. Actually, not even that bad, but one incident was shifty enough that I can't go above 3 stars. I arrived with my husband and parents in tow, and right away the vibe was kind of weird. Somebody asks us where we'd like to sit, but then when we say a booth, they just say "ok!" and kind of stand there. So we just stand there. We all are just standing there together, being awkward. Finally I ask if we should just pick out a table and they inform us you're to seat yourself. OK, that's fine. But you're a weirdo. Once we've claimed a space, we start going through the menu, and I'm excited! First of all, it's great that so much of the menu is gluten free. Now, lots of people claim they can't eat gluten because they're liars, but my step-mother has Celiac disease and it's the real deal. I love being able to take her someplace where she can eat the bulk of the menu and not feel relegated to 2-3 things. Guac for an appetizer, at a reasonable price of $7. Tasted good. Yum. We all opt for a few different taco varieties, and I get three: beef brisket, baja fish and roasted duck. While the latter was the one I was most excited for - and it was indeed good - that beef brisket taco stole the show. Holy Zeus it was delicious! If you don't get it, you're dumb. All other parties equally enjoyed their tacos. But let's talk about the side dishes. Specifically, how they're meant to be shared but nowhere is that mentioned on the menu or by our server. So what happens? Out of a group of 4, three of us get corn. Do you know how much corn we had at our table? An unreasonable amount, that's for sure! Why would you say something like "hey people - maybe you don't need all that corn?" That's what I'd do. It was good corn and all, but JEEZ that was a lot of corn. Corn for days, I tell ya. The food was great, and reasonably priced. I liked the atmosphere of the place. I'd just say the general lack of common sense from the service staff keeps this place at an A-OK 3 stars.

Love this location just as much as the Delmar one. Our service was actually phenomenal. We came with a group of 6 and our server was so helpful! I wish I remembered his name... But regardless, same incredible food, larger location, more downtownish which is great. I love when I bring a group of my friends who are used to never trying anything out of the ordinary, just typical chain restaurants... And I bring them to a place like Mission and they're ecstatic about food! Also so glad the service, drinks, food.. Just everything was on point! Will be back again and again. (As for my review on the food, read my review on the other mission taco's location. But really you can't go wrong with anything here.)

This place is just ok. I can't say that the food was over the top amazing. I had the taco of the month which was the pho king taco, carne asade, fried fish, and the chicken. We wanted to do a sampling of items. We also ordered chips and salsa and a chicken burrito. The flavors just weren't there for me. Again just ok. Is it worth trying once? Yeah. Twice? Nah.

  • Brianne G.

Mission Taco, you da bomb. Having tried nearly everything on the restaurant's menu, this place is it. I recommend everything I have ever eaten there. Especially the carne asada fries. Which is like a platter of supreme nachos (with sprinkly cheese, not that wiz shit) WITH SEASONED FRIES INSTEAD OF CHIPS. *cue the angel choir* The Brah'rito is the carne asada fries wrapped up in a burrito. Can't go wrong there either. -1 for lack of complimentary chips and salsa (though available for purchase), because I am a Fat American who demands these things. But +2 for the bottomless diet cola with perfect cubes of ice.

  • Sarah W.

Meh. I don't really get the hype about this place. I've eaten here a handful of times and have never been too impressed with the food. Their daily salsas and churros are the best things on the menu, in my opinion. I could eat those forever. Don't get the burritos smothered in the ancho sauce; it's basically barbecue sauce. It's not a place that I'd actively seek out to get a bite, but would go if I were with people that wanted to. The staff's cool and the music is good, though. Service is pretty on point as well. One time while dining here, someone who was not my server brought me the wrong burrito and my server snatched it up the moment it hit the table. As far as service and the time it takes it get your food, Soulard's better than Delmar.

Great food at an affordable price. Get the street corn! The duck taco and the carne asada tacos are also great. Excellent service. Cocktails are fantastic too. Wished there was a little bit more variation on the menu but other than that, we had a great experience. Definitely coming back.

My fiancée and I just moved to St. Louis (from Cincinnati Ohio!) and saw all the Great reviews on yelp and we love Mexican food so we knew what our first date night would be. We were seated right away. However, there was a large table with family seated next to us that has several small kids and everyone knows how that can be....The manager was very aware of the noise situation and brought us queso and guacamole on the house while we waited for our margaritas. That was greatly appreciated and was a true sign of a great manager. We loved our margaritas ( we each got 2!) and the carne asada fries are a must have. The queso was so full of flavor and the quac was on point. The fiancée got the roasted duck taco and the taco of the month. (Both phenomenal) and I was pretty full off of the savory appetizers so I got one portobello taco which was so delicious. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly. We had to do the Cheeros which were good but it would be cool to have dipping sauce options (salted caramel and/or a rotating sauce) overall we really enjoyed our first date night. We can't wait to bring our visiting family and friends here!

I looooove Mission Taco. It can get pricy, but those margaritas are totally worth it. Some personal favorites are carne asada fries, fried fish tacos (and I'm not even a big fish fan), carne asada tacos, and the street corn. And of course the margs :) Only down sides are it can get super loud inside, and on weekends there is usually a pretty long wait, but I love that their kitchen is open late and they have taco specials after 9pm. You can also place a to-go order and get it delivered to iTap, which is awesome if you can handle eating your tacos sans margarita.

Ehhhhh. Place was cool looking- full bar, hipster decorations with accompanying patrons to match, high top tables to make you feel a little special, and high ceilings that made you say "ooo000ooohhhahhh high ceilings...fancy"..... Anyways: Very UNAUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD... You have been warned. I was craving mexican food...but all I got was an American burrito.. in disguise. Chips and salsa - too bland, not spicy enough! "The Brahrito" (did I spell it right?) - I liked it the first bite, after the second, just meh. Not enough of everything! "Three little piggies" - the ultimate meh. The BBQ-fusion-mexican burrito just didn't go right. My favorite thing there, was the Churros with the sauce...I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for that though.

2.5 stars. No complimentary chips and salsa, which I think should be a staple at all Mexican restaurants, so I was disappointed. I got the corn side which is big enough to share and a vegetarian taco with mushrooms in it. The corn was pretty good and had a nice smoky flavor but the veggie taco was less than impressive. I was not a fan of the mushrooms in there. A little pricey for what you get. The atmosphere and service were good, though. This restaurant isn't that memorable for me so I won't be returning.

Great flavors. Went for lunch and got 2 tacos and chips and salsa. Two tacos is plenty for lunch. My friend got 3 tacos and said jt was too much food for lunch. The atmosphere is fun, the food came out fast and it was full of flavor. I'll be back for sure!

My cousin Kevin and I ate here 10 days ago. Both of us enjoy Mexican food immensely and we've had a tradition of getting together regularly and trying new Mexican restaurants when we hear about them. Kevin is also a Margarita aficionado and this adds an extra dimension to dining with Kevin because we can also comment on the "alcohol" factor at some of these places. We tried Mission Taco Joint on the recommendation of another cousin who had never been there but had heard great things about it. The restaurant is long and narrow, house in what appears to be a former garage or perhaps a machine shop. The garage door appears that it could still be opened in good weather. I don't know if they do that. The decor is brick. There's no attempt to make this restaurant appear to be citchey Mexican nor to reflect any Mexican architectural influence. The margaritas are homemade from house made fruit juices. They are not served by the pitcher the way my cousin likes them and apparently quite expensive based on our lunch bill for two. The food is excellent, but definitely overpriced. Everything is sold ala carte. The chips and salsa were extra unlike most Mexican restaurants. Although the sauces look the same, there are two choices served with the chips. One is a rather mild traditional salsa and the other is a delicious smoked salsa. Considering that the chips and salsa cost extra, I was pleased with the smoked salsa and the warm chips, but it wasn't worth the extra price ($3.00). There are no side dishes with entrees unless one wants to pay extra for them. I had the The Brah'rito ($12), which is a burrito containing Carne asada, chipotle bacon, black beans, crema, chile-crusted potato fries, Chihuahua cheese, ancho sauce, topped with guacamol and pico do gillo. No sides. It was very good, but overpriced, and I think I would get something just as good and more reasonable at Tower Tacos, inauthentic, locally owned Mexican restaurant on Cherokee. I also couldn't resist trying a Roasted Duck Taco ($3.50): Chile roasted duck, crisp pork belly carnitas, avocado serrano sauce. It was excellent although mostly pork belly. The menu says these are served family style on homemade tortillas, but since the taco is only enough for one, I'm not sure where family style comes in unless a group ordered a bunch of them which could get very pricey very quickly. My cousin ordered the South Beach Burrito ($9.00), Grilled chicken, Chihuahua cheese, cilantro rice, smashed black beans, chipotle aioli, topped with guacamole. He said it was excellent, but without sides was overpriced. Our total lunch bill was $85, which included 4 margaritas, served individually. Most of that bill went to the margaritas, which, as my cousin says, " were good, not great and not worth that kind of money." This was not fine dining like Cafe Provence or the old Chez Leon in the Central West End before it moved to Clayton and closed. This is one of those trendy places that will have its time, but I don't expect thay Kevin or I will go back.

Our last few visits were a lot of fun. The featured taco (Vietnamese) was a good surprise. Service is awesome, the $8 margaritas are all ice.

This place is the dope. I ate food that I normally don't like and I liked it. Best tacos I've tasted in town. The service is good (perhaps reluctantly...hipsters....but it's good). Lots of pretty women at the bar.

After driving by this spot at least a hundred times on our way to John's Donuts, I finally decided it was worth a drop in. Gotta say the atmosphere is cool. The little red chairs are a bit stiff and annoying, but overall a fun place to see. The guacamole was pretty good. I'm a big fan of jalapeño in my guac, so that was a nice plus and the serving size was plentiful. The street corn was good, but definitely enough to share with at least four. The burritos are huge as described. My niece enjoyed hers and brought half home. I ordered two tacos: the portobello and the pollo pibil. The pollo was okay. The chicken a bit dry and the other flavors so-so. Not good, not bad. Just there. The portobello though surprised me with its big bold creamy flavor. Loved this one. I enjoyed lunch and will go back. Will try some other selections next time!

I had the privilege of attending their soft opening. The day has finally arrived! The place is in a great location in Soulard -- across the street from Bogarts and connected to iTap and Epic. It is large and beautiful and has two great garage doors they can open up on perfect days. Most importantly, their food and drinks are spot on. I'm big fan of the original Mission as well as Milagro. Everything I tried was every bit as good. They're going to unofficially open their doors to the public tomorrow. If you can't wait a few days I suggest popping your head in for a milanesa torta or duck taco.

If you want flavor in your food this is not the place to go. I had the brah'rito which tasted like salt & the carne asada taco which tasted like I was eating water because of the lack of flavor. I ordered the mission Paloma cocktail which tasted like lemon rind, the salt rim was also mixed into the drink. I won't be coming back again, but take your chances, $$ later you will realize you made the wrong decision.

Will definitely be returning again and again. The chorizo taco is by far the best, but the special of the month, fish, and portebello tacos are all very good choices. Not a fan of "The Margarita" but take out the dry orange and its pretty good.

Mission Taco has a very fun environment in a very hip area of St. Louis. The tacos are extremely unique and tasty, and the owners are not afraid to experiment with new ideas as their Taco of the Month is typically very different but very delicious. Last time I visited, I ordered the chips and guacamole as an appetizer and the chips were so salted they were a little difficult to eat. The guacamole was delicious, and the duck tacos (my personal favorite) were delicious, but the chips could have been scaled back a bit on the salt. The service we received was very top rate as well, but be prepared to spend over $20 per person (tip included) if you get a soft drink, appetizer and tacos. All in all, Mission Taco is a bit overpriced for my liking, but the food makes the price much easier to swallow.

Welcome to Soulard! We ordered take out so I can't really speak of the atmosphere or in house service. Our take out order was ready within 15 min and the staff seemed friendly. The bf ordered: 2 Baja fish tacos @ $3 each - wood-fire grilled with chipotle baja sauce, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, & queso fresco. & 2 grilled chicken tacos @ $3 each - wood-fire grilled chicken, ancho bbq sauce, pickled onion, & fresh mango salsa. He reported that he liked them both and would order them again but he favored the fish. I had the New Year's Resolution burrito - $9 whole wheat tortilla, grilled tofu, black beans, vegetable quinoa, pico de gallo, jalapeno salsa, & cilantro pepita pesto. This burrito was amazing. It was large, grilled?, and full of flavor. It was spicy, had good textures, and the cilantro pepita pesto was awesome. We will mos def be back.

We been there about 5-6 times. The good the bad and the ugly foo! The Good- appetizers are by far the highlight of the place: The Bad- very poor seasoned menus we have had abut 3-4 tacos and burritos and all not flavors no seasoning. The Ugly- the off and on craft beer list. Sometimes amazing most times its basic. We have learned going there that only eat the apps they rock everything else is so poorly seasoned it a waste.

Hands down...best Margarita ever! And I love little street tacos! The Carne asada taco could use a little more seasoning...but loved it

First off, I would have given 5 stars but the service was a little off. My order was incorrect and I asked for a side of cheese after my order was brought to me...cheese never came. Carne Asada taco was DYNAMITE. And you definitely want to order the street corn. Flavor packed bites. Yum! The birria taco was brought to me too (wrong item on my order). I gave it a try, but the flavor was not my favorite.

The server and the food. This young man was great. Our group was coming in late after a volleyball game on a Sunday evening. He didn't mind the trashy sports attire or the time. He was engaging and fun. With his own business and new baby on the way we all enjoyed talking to him. The food was great as usual and this time the place was simply different because of the mood being changed by a happy employee !! Cheers to that dude !!

Yum yum yum!!!!! Started with chips and salsa - their chipotle salsa is fantastic - has a great smokey flavor with a little bit of a bite. The tomatillo salsa was just as good. We ordered the fish tacos. They are served family style and oh so tasty! We got the fried fish - it was crispy And the veggies were perfect! You will not want to miss out on the Cilantro rice and sweet corn. Not to be forgotten - the signature margarita is very good too. Be prepared for a wait - but so worth it!

Some of the food was good but these are the reasons for 2 stars: 1) charging extra for salsa, I hate restaurants that nickel and dime me! Just raise every menu item by $1 if you are struggling so much to cover your salsa cost. 2) quinoa, rice so bland 3) hipsters with bad attitudes! Geez there are PLENTY of unemployed people. Your people look like they DREAD being there. They need a round of Prozac. Terrible service, aloof, slow, rude. Hey guys, you are servers in St. Louis, don't try to act like you are so cool. Hire a completely new floor staff. 4) just overall too big with not enough attention to quality and spice. A giant burrito is fine if it's good but don't stuff it with a ton of cheap bland rice just to make it big.

I was really excited to see the new location open near me! Love the atmosphere of this restaurant. I had no idea what to expect as this was my first time here. I ordered the chicken torta. It wasn't necessarily authentic, but I don't think the restaurant is trying to be. The chicken was more of a breaded patty instead of chopped chicken. I loved that they have refried black beans. I was a little bummed that chips and salsa don't come standard, but at least I didn't fill up on them before the food came. The food wasn't amazing or terrible. I would love to go back and try the tacos, though. Service was very "ehhh". We saw our server twice. She took our order and brought our check. Other people ran our food and drinks.

Had never been to mission and a good friend of mine said let's go. I thought it's just hon a be a typical Mexican joint. Was so wrong Tyler made me from scratch the mist delicious drinks I've had. A truly great mixologist in the STL. He took great pride and provided the best customer service time ever. Great job Tyler great job mission taco.

This place has great service, amazing atmosphere and good food! My family and I came here for our weekly dinner outing and we tried a lot of things! We had queso and chips and street corn to start! I've had better queso at other places, there really wasn't much flavor to it. The street corn was fantastic! We then tried one of every single taco! My parents favorite was the fish taco, the fried fish taco. My boyfriends favorite was the grilled fish taco and the chorizo taco! My favorite was the portabella mushroom taco! The tacos are filled with flavor and each one is totally different, you would never expect to have tacos like this! The meat on the tacos was all very well prepared and the toppings on each taco was different and very well thought out! Perfection in the tacos! Then we had the homemade churros for dessert, I love churros and was expecting something amazing, and was very disappointed. My suggestion would be try a little bit of everything! I left pleasantly full and will be going back, just will be avoiding a few items the next time!

So I had the bright idea to wait for a table during the Soulard Pet Parade, my fault...I missed Blues Traveler altogether grr. Most understandably I waited a while for my food and drink to come out as the place was overloaded, they were even out of my favorite beer but it provided a good opportunity to try other things so that's ok. When the food did arrive it was phenomenal, it was my first time trying the carne asada taco and holy smokes that's my favorite now and maybe forever. The cactus taco was so interesting as well and had a nice jolt to it without being overpowering. Oh, street corn gets an A+. I find this location to be a little cozier than the Loop, it's more neighborhoody if that's a word. Hard working staff as well!

I had the portabella, duck and porkbelly, and cactus tacos; they were delicious! The salsas and guacamole were some of the best I've had. I asked the waitress about Irish whiskey and she offered me Jameson, which made me a happy man :) Very chill atmosphere and friendly service.

I eat here at least once a week. The food is delicious and fresh, and I've never had any complaints about their service. If you are looking for more options such as fajitas, enchiladas or other mexican entrees, you won't find them here. This is a Taco Joint (just like its name implies). I almost always get tacos or a torta. My favorites are the fried fish taco, portobello taco, and veggie torta (add goat cheese). I also recommend the chicken flautas and street corn.

Seriously good. I love Mexican food more than any other variety, but I'm naturally skeptical. Thanks to the soulard gem (and it's loop cousin) street tacos are better than ever in St. Louis. The had local beer which I always find a plus, and I was not at all interested in the fries until my table mate ordered them covered in deliciousness. a real must.

I came here with hopeful expectations for this taco shop and was quickly disappointed. The food is incredibly awful here - I can still remember the dry taste of the veggie quinoa and how bland the salsa was. The worst part is that I came hungry as ever and ready to devour everything in sight. Instead I played with the food and tried gulping it down. This not so great taco shop gains a star because of the awesome ambience of the spot. It is a great place to come for drinks with friends... after you have already eaten! If you are simply passing by then do not waste your money or time here.

Delicious Baja style Mexican food at great prices, in a hip, casual setting. The food seems pretty healthy too. 'Tried the Brisket Taco and the Shredded Pork Taco. Both were great but I preferred the unique flavor of the pork with the pickled onions. Yum. I mixed the Street Corn with the Cilantro Rice, which was quite a tasty combo. Great beer selection at good prices. The pepper potatoes were basically fries with pepper seasoning on them. They were ok. I would like to try the Carne Asada Potatoes on my next visit. Friendly staff provided great suggestions and overall great service. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!

Awesome yelp reviews and word of mouth brought us here. Cute little place in Soulard that I so wanted to like, but unfortunately did not. Service was dreadful. I order a soda, server comes back with a water. Okay, not the worst thing in the world. I ask a second time and about 15 minutes pass before my soda arrives. I ask for a refill and the server holds my drink hostage for at least 10 minutes while chatting with a coworker. I almost got up to grab it from her hands. (Btw- they weren't busy) "Street Corn" is all the rage. I don't get this? Maybe we had a bad batch? Burnt corn in a bowl with a little cheese was what we experienced. Yuck. Split the South Beach burrito with the husband. Guac was tasty but when things come smothered, I get a sense it's an attempt to mask something. Burrito was mediocre at best. Tacos were probably the best part. Had the grilled chicken and a bite of the fish tacos. Overall a very Meh experience.

Normally I would give a venue like this a 4, due to the great attributes like the vibe, the friendly staff the fair pricing, the craft/local beer and the all around pleasant experience. In order to explain my 3 star I suppose I must admit it's just my taste in venue/food. The food is pretty solid, beer is cold and tastey, people were awesome...the vibe is a little franchisey...:just is, maybe it's because it just so damn popular and busy. Certainly it isn't the staff, they are down to earth and fun. The food, maybe that's why I went three. You see the food is ok, I think I'm just basic. I think I just enjoy the chips at Chevys so damn much these were tough to enjoy more. The salsa here was superb. The gauc was top quality. Maybe I just wasn't blown away with the tacos. I like flour tortilla tho...I'm sure I'll go back for the beer and I'll try a burrito next time!

I woke up in a cold sweat breathing hard, the time was 4:37am. "Chicken Flautas..." I whispered as I laid back down. Sleep wasn't the only thing that was becoming difficult since my first visit to Mission Taco. My relationship with my girlfriend has suffered too. She seems so bland and plain compared the crispy yet ever so soft tortillas, and that tender chicken mixed in a perfect ratio with cheese drizzled with sour cream served in a quad phallic tower of sexiness and desire. And this sauce...red... tasty.... awesome.... I don't know what it is... wait no, it is called Awesome Sauce. I must go back, I have to go back, I will be back. For there is no stopping the amount of Flautas I will cramp down my throat. The decor was pleasant.

After hearing so much about the food at the physical space known as Mission Taco, I felt it was long overdue to visit. The space is very congenial and the staff was great-knowledgeable and on top of their game! Some nice cocktail choices along with a good selection of beers....and more. The corn off the cob was a very flavorful side dish and the tacos were very fresh, quite tasty and creatively prepared! I enjoyed my dishes but the pork seemed a bit lacking in flavor-I was anticipating more robust tastes. The portobello taco and chicken were really good! After 3 tacos packed with meat and the corn, I was quite satiated!! A nice casual space with a good vibe and really fresh food....

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
